Repeat client the Hatcher Group hired MTI to produce a Zoom meeting and live streaming event for the Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The “Nation’s Report Card” town hall event was held at the historic Charles Sumner School in Washington, D.C. In addition to the live audience, there were 900 attendees online. This national report provides results on student performance from grades 4 and 8, as part of its mission to “Empower education with accurate, timely, and nonpartisan statistical products.”
The Hatcher Group is a strategic communications and marketing firm based in Bethesda, Md., which hired MTI two years ago for a similar NCES event.
Livestream Hosts and Production
NPR’s Corey Turner was the host, with NCES Commissioner Dr. Peggy Carr and Martin West of the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University on the panel. Part of the production involved a PowerPoint presentation screened for the room and streamed to those online.

Streaming Director, Audio Engineers
MTI's crew included Streaming Director Analee Wong and Audio Engineers Rob Sanchez and John O'Brien.

Being On Time and On Track Is the Key to Success
The MTI crew was Streaming Director Analee Wong, videographer Ben Wong, Audio Engineers Rob Sanchez and John O’Brien, and gaffer Patrick Young.
Video Equipment
One camera in the room, the Sony FS7, captured the scene, with several Sony wireless microphones going into a Behringer audio board, and a Macbook Pro encoder and Atmos Shogun recorder.

Audio engineer Rob Sanchez tests the microphones before the event to ensure proper sound recording and broadcast.
Video Production for Live Stream Events
Though the event was relatively straightforward, the production team was on site four hours early to set up and test all the equipment. Making sure there is enough time to prepare is the key to a successful program.
