MTI got a call from UK-based GB News to record a series of interviews at Marriott’s Gaylord National Resort at National Harbor in Maryland during the recent CPAC convention.

Because audio is always vitally important in any production, and because we would be recording in a convention hallway, with lots of loud people moving around the crew, one of the first decisions was to use “Madonna mics.” Popularized by the singer’s use of them in her stage shows, the DPA model fits over the head and uses two omnidirectional mics positioned close together, replicating the sound that the ear picks up, cutting down on background noises. The kit was rented from Gotham Sound in New York.

Audio technician Josh Roberts sets up the DPA headset microphones on the interview subject as Albert Liesegang waits at the camera.

John Murphy and Albert Liesegang were on the three Sony FS7 Mark II cameras and Josh Roberts handled the audio, with Aputure lights illuminating the subjects.
