MTI Produces a Pod Save America Livestream Event For Thousands Of Viewers

Metro Teleproductions was hired by Moment, the digital events platform, to produce a livestream of the groundbreaking political podcast Pod Save America. The 90-minute event took place at the prestigious Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C. Pod Save America is hosted by a quartet of former staffers in the Obama White House: Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, Dan Pfeiffer, and Tommy Vietor. The group was joined this evening by political strategist Symone Sanders-Townsend, and guests included Sen. John Fetterman, celebrity chef José Andrés, Pod Save America, and Virginia State Senate candidate Jennifer Carroll Foy.

Video Production Team

Covering the packed house were an MTI production team of five: Director/TD/Streamer John Bogley; John Murphy on the camera at the back of the house; Ben Wong and Ben Heathcoat manning cameras in each of the theater wings; and Todd Burger with a handheld camera rig, roaming the room throughout the livestream.

Be Prepared For Anything

The start of the program was delayed due to President Joe Biden‘s speech to the nation, which of course was a topic of conversation for the evening. This also meant that there were late additions of clips from the speech that were broadcast to the house and over the livestream. While the livestream already included various video clips, it’s a reminder to always stay flexible and be prepared to expect the unexpected.

Video Production Tech

While MTI was required to use the theater’s house lights and audio, we provided the crew, cameras, and livestream technology. The cameras were Sony PXW-FS7 M2 models, and the Black Magic ATEM 2 Switcher and the Atomos Shogun monitor-recorder-switcher allowed everything to be broadcast live to the tens of thousands of viewers online.

It was an eventful, busy night and as usual MTI’s expert team allowed the show to go on without a hitch.
