Livestream 250 and Beyond

Covering multiple speakers requires a lot of technology, and MTI was well prepared.

The National Museum and Center for Service hired MTI to produce a livestream of its “250 and Beyond National Service Symposium.” The NMCFS was founded by former congressman Brian Baird and organized around a simple mission: to remind Americans what we have in common. And so the event was dedicated to asking questions about how citizens could and should think about the next 250 years of the American democratic experiment. The day was filled with discussions and testimonials on topics such as what it will take to build and sustain a flourishing social fabric for the future, and examples of successful campaigns to bring people together in service to the larger community.

The livestream was covered from several angles, for both clarity and visual interest.

The event took place at the Martin Luther King Library in Washington, D.C., a fitting location as libraries are a perfect example of a service to their communities. The livestream included speeches from NMCFS founder Baird and members of various public, private, and charitable nonprofits and organizations, including the American Red Cross, the National Youth Leadership Council, AmeriCorps, the John R. Lewis Leadership Program, and many more.

Livestreaming From a Large Space Requires Extra Prep and Equipment

All of the action took place in the library, so there were no remote speakers or PowerPoint slides to roll in. We worked with the client on lower-third graphics to identify the multiple speakers. Three cameras provided coverage: a closeup camera focused on speakers at the podium, a wider shot of the full panel of guests, and a static wide shot.

The Livestream Video Crew

The crew included John Bogley, director and streaming technician, Josh Roberts on audio, and Greg Fabic and Shawn Chadwick on cameras. A range of wireless and handheld microphones were used, plus the trusty Behringer audio board. The location provided the lights and a hard-lined ethernet feed for streaming.

Multi-Camera Livestream for Panel Discussion

A multi-camera video production with a three-person crew works perfectly for a panel-style discussion. An experienced camera and audio team ensures the variety and clarity of focus ideal for following the discussion as well as moving to remote speakers. Lower-third identification of your speakers improves the viewer experience. If you are a planning a panel discussion, this crew configuration will serve your purpose well in most any industry or setting.
