MTI video production helps New Jersey’s best on their best day

Dave Lilling of Metro Teleproductions served as Coordinating Production Manager for the 2023 New Jersey Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which was held at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey. George Veras of Pollack Films was the Co-Executive Producer, along with Steve Edwards.

Watch highlights of the ceremony here:

All-Star Hall of Fame Event

The all-star event was hosted by Danny Devito and honored a broad group of Jersey achievers. Included were singer Tony Orlando, David Chase, creator of The Sopranos TV show, who was introduced by Sopranos star Steven Van Zandt, and Zandt’s fellow E Street Band mate Patti Scialfa, who was introduced by her husband, Bruce Springsteen. Gov. Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Snyder Murphy got the party started with their remarks.

NJ Hall of Fame 2023 Production

Backstage technology setup, MTITV Video Production. So much technology had to be put into place before the show could go on.

All the Technology, All at Once

The production was extremely demanding because it was a “set and go” situation. The crew arrived at 7 a.m. and the show went on live at 8 p.m. All of the video, audio, and communications gear was brought in that morning. For an event with so many performers and so many moving parts, there were many things that had to go right — and just as many that could go wrong. Fortunately, the crew was up to the task.

The Associate Producer was Eric Weshenbaugh, audio was supplied by Jason Dermer of Asbury Audio, communications was by Law Sound and Lighting, and Technical Manager Paul Tarter worked to efficiently link the video and live music performances by Tony Orlando, Gloria Gaynor, the Smithereens, and more–as well as 23 video presentations.

Video Production Crew & Tech

Video was handled by Dave Emmerling of Midnight Media Group, and played using the Playback Pro software on MTI’s Apple Macbook Pro computers. Prompter capabilities were by Jennifer Marshall of Acute Productions, lighting was by Dan McKendrick, Russ Morris and Patricia Stacik. Stage managers were Tony McGowan and Dave Patterson, makeup was by Belinda Moss and production support was Joe Jacovino Jr., Mike Hirson, Abe Urag, Jon Schaman, Rich Hill, Wesley Bailey, and Edward Rozariio.

The All-Star Final Jam

The production was not just about speakers at a podium, but there were many musical performances to prepare for. A great jam session at the end brought many people to the stage for a rendition of A Little Help From My Friends. Making sure that so many microphones, amps, cameras, and spotlights were working was part of the challenge that the production required.

We thank the union crew at NJPAC for working with us on a very challenging and satisfying event.
