Supporting Democracy, One Hybrid Event at a Time

MTI was hired to provide three days of audio/visual support for a hybrid event, the 2023 Global Democracy Coalition Forum. Sponsored by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), an intergovernmental organization that supports sustainable democracy worldwide, the forum took place in-person in Washington, D.C., and Brussels, and online over Zoom.At times there were up to four virtual speakers and two in-person speakers, all of whom required exacting technical setup and monitoring to ensure a flawless production for both attendees in the room and those participating from across the globe.

Hybrid Event Setup and Testing

With such a complicated production, a full day was reserved for equipment setup and testing, with the crew arriving at 6:30 a.m. Two Panasonic AGDVX 200 were used, with Aperture lights, Behringer X32 audio board, a PA system and microphones. Backups for much of the equipment was on hand in case of unexpected problems. “Always have a backup” is a wise motto.

Production Crew

The crew consisted of Director/Technical Director Greg Siers, Camera Operator John Murphy, and two Audio Engineers (each handling a separate production day), Josh Roberts and Noah Firtel.

Thanks to proper planning and advance testing, the event was a success and everyone was able to communicate, no matter their location.
