For the second year in a row our client, the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation, asked MTI to produce it’s annual livestream. Because C-SPAN was not covering the event, we supplied all of the equipment necessary.

The event was the 28th Annual James Madison Lecture on the topic, “America at 250: The Revolution That Made a Republic.” The conversation was between Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Rick Atkinson and Dr. Jeffry Morrison, Director for Academics at the James Madison Memorial Fellowship. Atkinson is working on a trilogy about the American Revolution, the second book of which has just been published, The Fate of the Day: The War for America, Fort Ticonderoga to Charleston, 1777-1780. The livestream was approximately an hour long, and took place at the same location as last year, Marymount University, Ballston Campus.

Our crew, Audio Engineer John O'Brien and Videographer John Bogley can be seen in the front row, monitoring the one-camera setup for the livestream.

Like Washington: Relying on a Small But Dedicated Production Crew

This was a one-camera shoot, so Videographer John Bogley set up the livestream and then moved to the camera, where he began focusing on the podium for the introduction by Guy F. Burnett, Chief of Staff and Academics for the Foundation, and then seamlessly moving over to the two-shot of the interview, following the interaction throughout the event.

Audio Engineer John O’Brien tied into the facility’s PA system so that we could just go with single mics on the host and guest. There were also two wireless stick mics for the Q&A. We used Sony wireless lav mics and Aperture lighting and a Sony camera for the shoot.
