Apps on a phone and 4K video sent between continents are all in a day’s work.

MTI was contacted by APAC Network, the Asia-Pacific news organization based in Brisbane, Australia, to produce an interview for the company’s web series about climate change. The location was the Brookings Institution and the subject was Vera Songwe, the Institute’s Senior Fellow for Global Economy and Development, Africa Growth Initiative.

Video Production Crew

Only a one-person crew was required—in this case camera operator Albert Liesegang—with just one subject to be recorded. But there are few productions that are really simple. The one complicating factor here was that the client would be watching and conducting the interview remotely—from the other side of the globe. Albert used WhatsApp on his phone to communicate with the Australia-based interviewer, while the 4K-PAL recording signal was sent to the client over Zoom for review and to conduct the interview. Dr. Songwe’s son sat by the camera to ask the questions.

Producing Video From a World Away

Once the global connections were made, the interview got underway, shot with the Sony FS7 MII camera, lit with Aputure lights, and audio captured with a lavalier microphone.

In the end, the production went off without a hitch and everyone was satisfied with the results.
